Creating modal popups

To create your own modal popups, you will first need to active GroovePages' popup builder ( see this article).

If you have not previously created any popups, the sidebar to the left will contain a short message and a button to create your very first popup. If you have already created some popups, this sidebar will contain an overview of all your existing popups.

No existing popups:

Existing popups:

To create a new popup, click button labeled "+ Create new popup" (if you current do not have any existing popups) or click the pink button with the "+" icon at the top of the left sidebar.

When adding a new popup, the left sidebar will contain the new popup's settings and the right sidebar will contain all available popup templates:

Popup types

GroovePages allows you to create three types of modal popup:

  1. Standard
  2. Entry
  3. Exit

Standard popups

Standard popups do not get triggered automatically and will need to manually be connected to one or more buttons within your site. To connect a standard popup to a button, select the button on the canvas and click on it to bring up the right sidebar. Within the right sidebar, select the tab labeled "Functionality". Click to the expand the dropdown selector labeled "Link to" (please note that this option is only available for certain elements such as buttons, icons and images) and choose "Popup". A new dropdown selector labeled "Popup" will now appear and you can select the popup by expanding this dropdown selector.

Entry popups

Entry popups are automatically triggered when a visitor lands on one of the pages in your site or funnel. Entry popups include two additional settings allowing you to modify its behaviour:

  • Behaviour
This setting allows you to set whether this particular popup should only be shown on the first visit ("Only show on first visit") or every single time a visitor lands on the page ("Show on every visit").
  • Delay
This setting allows you to specify a delay in presenting the popup to the visitor in seconds. For example, setting this to "10" would result in the popup being shown 10 seconds after the visitor lands on the page.

Exit popups

Exit popups are automatically triggered when a visitor exits on one of the pages in your site or funnel (GroovePages detects this by the visitor moving his or her mouse cursor outside of the browser's viewport). Exit popups include one additional setting allowing you to modify its behaviour:

  • Behaviour
This setting allows you to set whether this particular popup should only be shown on the first visit ("Only show on first visit") or every single time a visitor lands on the page ("Show on every visit").

Style editor and element configuration menus

While working on modal popups, both the style editor  and the element configuration menus are available. Both work exactly the same within the popup builder as they do on the regular canvas.
